Beer Review: The Chosen One

Beer: The Chosen One

Style: Double Imperial IPA

ABV: 8.0%

IBU’s: 80

I chose this beer simply because it is the one and you should choose it too. End of review. Just kidding, I really chose this beer because my first beer from Tilted Barn was so delicious I want to try more. Tilted Barn is a micro-brewery out of Exeter, RI that recently came into New Hampshire for distribution. I remember hearing a little bit about them through social media and might have had them at a beerfest, but never got the chance to actually try them until now. And damn am I happy that they’re in the state!

This double IPA pours very nicely in a glass and starts off with some nice carbonated head but it dissipates a little as you drink it, as expected. It smells very fruity on the nose, probably from the hops they put in it. They do not say what hops are in it on the can nor untapped, but they say its an American Double IPA, so I assume it is American hops. Whatever hops they put in it, they smell and taste great. You taste a mouth-coating hop explosion that never settles down at all, and that is exactly what I like. This (Chosen) one is surely a little dank and grassy but also pretty smooth so you are not chewing through those hops when you drink it. They say it is 80 IBU’s, and I guess I could see that but I do not think it is overly bitter because it is so smooth with juicy hops. Though someone that does not drink IPA’s all the time might think otherwise. Technically 100 IBU’s is the maximum limit, but breweries like to put 120 IBU’s, for example, on some beers which does not make sense. So this beer is definitely on the higher end of the scale but if you don’t like bitter beers I wouldn’t deter from it. I have been very impressed with the beers they are putting out and these guys are one of my favorites right now. I just wish they weren’t a 2.5 hour drive, but I will have to make it there at some point. This is an easy 4.5 out of 5, if not a 4.75 on the untapped scale. Getchya some of this if you see it!
